World Toilet Day 2025: The Future of Toilets That Work Anywhere

Each year on November 19, World Toilet Day reminds us that sanitation is essential to life. It protects health, preserves water, and restores dignity. Yet according to UN-Water, 3.4 billion people still live without access to safe toilets.

This year’s theme, We’ll Always Need the Toilet, highlights a truth we all share: no matter how our world changes, sanitation must keep pace. From aging infrastructure to rising seas, today’s systems are struggling under pressure. To build resilience, we need toilets that are accessible, adaptable, and built for the future.

Why Sanitation Systems Matter

Sanitation is more than a convenience. It is a public health defense system. Unsafe sanitation contaminates water, spreads disease, and deepens inequality. The World Toilet Day 2025 Factsheet reports that unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene cause around 1,000 child deaths every day from preventable illnesses like cholera and diarrhoea.

Lack of toilets also limits education and opportunity. Without safe, private facilities, women, girls, and people with disabilities face barriers to school, work, and public life. A safe toilet does more than meet a need. It opens doors to dignity, safety, and participation.

The Solarid Toilet System Story: A Solution Born from Scarcity

At Solarid Toilet System, our mission is to revolutionize sanitation through sustainable, people-centered toilet solutions that work anywhere. We believe everyone deserves dignified access to clean, reliable toilets without wasting water.

Our vision is a world where sanitation works anywhere, wastes nothing, and serves everyone. We are setting the standard for what eco-conscious, waterless sanitation can be: simple, effective, and built for people first.

Solarid Toilet began in 2011, when our founders built homes for families in Baja, Mexico. The community had no roads, running water, or sewer systems. Traditional toilets made no sense, and families did not want to waste their limited water on flushing.

The first Solarid Toilet was created there: a waterless system that offered dignity and safety where no sanitation had existed before. Fourteen design evolutions later, the Solarid Toilet remains rooted in that same purpose, providing a dry flush experience that works anywhere.

Future-Ready Toilet Systems

Climate change and population growth are putting pressure on systems built for another era. Floods, droughts, and rising sea levels damage wastewater infrastructure and contaminate clean water sources. As UN-Water notes, by 2050, more than 1.6 billion people will be at risk of floods that threaten sanitation services.

That is why the call to action this year is clear: invest in future-ready toilets today.

Solarid Toilets are designed to meet that challenge.
• No complex infrastructure required, adaptable to multiple environments
• Waterless flush that preserves scarce resources
• Durable construction for long-term use
• Simple user experience with minimal maintenance

By reducing dependency on traditional infrastructure, Solarid helps communities build resilience while keeping people healthy and environments clean, even in places where conventional systems cannot reach.

The Opportunity Ahead

World Toilet Day is a reminder that progress is possible. Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 will require a six-fold increase in global progress, according to the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme.

Innovation and collaboration will drive that progress. From urban design to off-grid housing, every step toward inclusive, climate-smart sanitation brings us closer to a world where everyone has access to a safe toilet.

At Solarid, we see that as an opportunity to change systems and improve lives.

Our Commitment

Solarid Toilet exists to make dignified sanitation possible anywhere. Every system installed reduces water dependency, strengthens resilience, and supports environmental health.

This World Toilet Day, we stand with UN-Water and organizations around the world calling for sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient sanitation. The future depends on how we handle what we leave behind.
